Watson – An Outstanding Invention to Change Computer and Robotic Future

Open Advancement Question Answer (OAQA) was an initiative, launched by IBM and Carnegie Mellon University, to contribute to more effective cooperation between scientific researchers in the area of automatic answering of human natural-language questions. The initiative aims to develop common metric, architecture, tools and experimental methods to resolve problems and facilitate cooperation in the progression of the state of the art in artificial intelligence.

Three years of intensive analysis and development by a core team of 20 researchers has developed Watson: knowledgeable software with capabilities close to the human level, in terms of precision, confidence, and speed of problem-solving. Watson is able to communicate with human and able to answer and solve long scientific formulas within a second. Research results strongly confirm that the Watson is powerful and expandable, using varying algorithm techniques to quickly process answers to human questions.

An important expectation of this technology is the establishment of a quality assurance system to ensure a standard design with the ability to be customized and quickly adapted to supply better performance for new domains, information, languages, and question varieties and designs. Watson can also assist the IBM supercomputer; the IBM company is currently adapting the design of Watson for business applications where it will function as an advisor to human consultants; for instance if we uses Watson in healthcare field, it can diagnose the disease after analyzing the reports and history of the patient.

By being based on the requirements of human operators, Watson aims to eliminate obvious errors and be ready to be used in a variety of areas, such as health, financial services, public management and commercial retailing. Watson is capable of analyzing various results to support computer engineers and programmers. It has the capability to categorize and evaluate numerous provided consequences (either scientific research or medical reports) to find ideal solutions through different algorithms.

After synchronizing these high-ranked outcomes, Watson evaluates results and answers using available knowledge, geographical and historical data to reject false results that contradict with facts and theory. Scientists and researchers can get great support from it as Watson is able to answer their questions and can provide them with research based results from its database.

IBM researchers have also programmed Watson to work with different human languages, using natural language processing. It is proven that running Watson, computers will not require commands by peripheral devices and operators can work with the computers through their voices and facial movements. Computers will be able to resolve uncertainty and ambiguity in the operators’ verbal commands.
