iPhone 4S on Verizon – Review

Apple has reported an all time high in sales of the iPhone, iPad, as well as Macs just recently. The availability of the latest iPhone from Apple on the leading carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint had quite a bit to do with these amazing figures. However, considering all these carriers, where does the iPhone 4S on verizon stand out?

If you are someone who is looking for a lot of speed on your device, AT&T is your best bet as it supports simultaneous voice calls along with data transfers, which in itself is an absolute delight thanks to AT&T’s HSPA+ 14.4 network. The iPhone 4S on Verizon is certainly the best iPhone model of all released by this carrier. In spite of that I am going to rate Verizon’s offering lower than the iPhone on Sprint for the simple reason that Verizon has pushed much more aggressively towards 4G LTE than Sprint, and this phone is not a 4G enabled phone.

The iPhone 4S comes in six models – 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, in black or white. The phone looks almost the same as its predecessor, the iPhone 4. This is a serious work of art and marvelous engineering. The solidity that comes with the iPhone is not seen in any other phone, even though many smartphones these days are modeled on the iPhone.

There are some minor flaws however, as the glass front and back is prone to cracking if the device is dropped frequently. The 3.5 inch Retina Display is absolutely gorgeous; however, the virtual keyboard was difficult to use in the portrait mode as it felt too cramped.

As far as features go, the camera is probably the top feature on this phone. Outdoor as well as indoor shoots were brilliant on this phone. The LED flash performed exceptionally well in low light conditions. As far as resolution goes, this one is streets ahead of its competition. The camera is as good as a digital camera if not better with hi-fi features like HDR on offer.

Call quality on Verizon is flawless and the RF reception too is pretty decent. Voice quality is extremely good on the earpiece that comes with the iPhone 4S. Calls made with the phone may sound thin, but is sharp and natural with good background voice cancellation.

The problem with the antennas has also been solved with the introduction of the top antenna in addition to the bottom antenna. During a call, the antenna with the best reception will conduct the call; and if you happen to cover one of the antennas, the other will take over. Even the battery life is better on this phone and I got around nine and a half hours on a strong 3G signal.

Verizon certainly offers the best 4G speeds in the USA, but the iPhone 4S is not a 4G phone, which means you cannot really get the speed advantage. That way, AT&T’s offering is the better bet with the carrier boasting of the best 3G network in the country. However, if you are not too overly concerned about data speeds, go ahead and get the iPhone 4S on Verizon as it is certainly the best one yet.
