How will you fix slow performance issues in Windows 7?

Windows 7 has come with many lucrative features such as ReadyBoost, Jump Lists, Windows Search, and more. To run all the features properly the system needs higher processor speed and more memory. If your computer has not enough memory and speedy processor, then it may run slowly. However, some tips have been described here; if these can be followed, most of the slow performance issues will be removed; your computer will provide faster performance.

Slow performance during startup process:

Your computer may take too much time during startup. This may happen due to various problems like programs’ conflicts, driver incompatibility, malware intrusion, shortage of memory, and so on. To remove the conflicting problems you should find out which program is responsible for the confliction. In most of the cases you can solve this problem by restoring the system to an earlier state. Just write “restore” in the search box of the Start menu, System restore feature will appear in front of you. Then choose your required option. You can solve many of these startup problems by using the tools from the System-Recovery-Options. You can run the System-Recovery-Options from the installation DVD; or you can run it when you restart the computer, by pressing the F8-key just after the BIOS-info-screen. Advanced-Boot-Options will appear, choose the Repair-Your-Computer and press enter. You will be prompted to enter keyboard-input-method, username and password, enter them properly and click OK; the System-Recovery-Options will appear.

Using Performance Troubleshooter:

The Performance troubleshooter will help to find and fix the problems automatically. The troubleshooter checks the issues which can be responsible for slow performance. Issues like the number of users currently logged on, multiple programs running simultaneously can be checked by this troubleshooter. You can go to the troubleshooter by typing “troubleshooter” in the search-box in the Control Panel. Then click on Troubleshooting; then click on Check-for-performance-issues under the System-and-Security.

Defragmenting:

The Defragmenter helps to rearrange fragmented data; it allows the drives and disks to work more efficiently. It can be run according to a pre-defined schedule or it can be run manually. To defragment the hard disk, follow these steps – click on Start, then type “Disk Defragmenter” in the search-box, then click on Disk Defragmenter from the list. Then choose the desired disk under the Current status. To know whether it needs to defragment the disk, click on Analyze disk. You may be prompted to enter password, enter the password properly. Take actions according to the analyzed report.

Turn off the Visual effects:

Windows 7 has many stunning visual effects. To provide these visual effects the operating system uses more memory. If you prefer faster performance than prettier look, turn off the visual effects that you do not need. You can control around twenty visual effects like transparent glass look, menu opening or closing etc. To control the effects, go to Start –> Control Panel –> Performance Information and Tools –> Adjust visual effects –> Visual Effects –> Adjust for best performance –> OK. If the system prompts for any password, enter the proper password.

All the above tips will help to increase the performance of the computer. If there are sufficient slots to add more memory to your computer, then you can increase the performance simply by adding more memory.
